Faith L. Duncan will be using archival research, material culture,
and oral histories to put together a history of the Region. She
has received numerous documents from past Officers and she has in
her possession the archives passed along to her by many members.
She has needs for primary documents such as regional newseletters
and
flyers, meeting minutes, Chapter records, photographs with identifiable
captions written on separate sheets of paper, negative to print
of people
and events, displays and videos old ballots,flyers and workshop
programs
If copies of written materials are sent she would request they be
made on
acid-free paper for long term storage.

1988:
Neil Hagadorn was the Region 10 director; the Board of Directors
added northern Idaho to the Northwest Region. Sam Ham is named regional
coordinator for the additional area. Neil always signed his correspondence
“Fair Winds and Calm Seas”.
1989: Director Karin Gustin, Deputy Jim Pollock,
Treasurer Bob Appling and Secretary Betsy Cheatham take office.
July 13, 1989: Interpretive Solutions to Management
Problems was the fall regional conference at the Cornet Bay Environmental
Learning Center, Whidbey Island, Washington.
September 15, 1989: Petitioners for the newly formed
Puget Sound chapter included the late Grant W. Sharpe.
1993:
The Region 10 business directory had twenty pages of businesses
and contractors and was sent in booklet form to the membership.
Susan Straus was the only individual listed under storytellers.
February
22-25, 1994: Region 10’s workshop, Access to Interpretation:
Unlock the World is held in Astoria, Oregon. Sam Ham gave the
closing address.
March
21, 1994: A recommendation/proposal submitted by Ronica Hathaway
requests clear policies in relation to funding and organizing chapters.
Ronnie was the Puget Sound Chapter president at the time.
December,
1994: A two year strategic plan for the Region had three goals:
enhance membership services, stabilize and diversify the region’s
financial resources, and strengthen the region’s organizational
structure. Multiple objectives and action items were listed under
each goal. Ronnie Hathaway was appointed newsletter editor in 1994.
1995:
There is $8,976.97 in the Regional treasury and an operational plan
with goals, objectives, and action items
April, 1995: Exhibit Design with the Visitor in Mind workshop is
offered by region 10 at the Inn of the 7th Mountain in Bend, Oregon.
John Osaki of the Forest Service is the Regional Director.
December
9, 1995: The Associated Press runs an article written about the
1995 federal furlough and the cost of the NIW in Orlando, Florida.May
14, 1996: Region 10 offers a workshop entitled Survival Tactics
for the Lean Years: a seminar on partnerships, grants, volunteers
and other strategies to boost budgets, in Pendelton, Oregon
December,
1996: A list of the Board of Directors from NAI included Cem Basman
as president and Jane Rohling as Region 10 Director. Jane worked
for the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, Enterprise, Oregon, at
the time.
1997:
Jane Rohling Director Walt Tegge, Deputy, Cindy Samples, Treasurer,
and Lezlie Murray, Treasury sell Pendelton Cowgirl Cards and Columbia
Legends Jewelry
Ronnie Hathaway is newsletter editor, and the cost
for eight pages is $500.00
The late interpreter anthropologist Jim Goss indicates
he can keynote at the Regional Workshop at Tamustalik Cultural Institute,
Umatilla Indian Reservation, Pendelton, Oregon; themes were cultural
heritage tourism, American Indian interpretation, and Introduction
to Interpretation

4-6,1997: NAI collaborative workshop in Redmond Washington featured
David Larsen, Sheri Forbes, Matt Graves, and John Osaki.

2, 1997: Double Design Day Interpretive Signs and Interactive Computer
Exhibits Workshop, Lewiston, Idaho; there was a Field Trip to Hell’s
Canyon Recreation Area.

25, 1997: Make a Character of Yourself Workshop offered by Nancy
Harms of Region 10 at the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive
Center in Baker City, Oregon.
April 11-13, 1997: NAI Spring Board Meeting in Tucson, Arizona.
Regional summary to the board indicates Pasquale Anolfo as membership
chair. Pendelton Cowgirl Calendars and Columbia Legends jewelry
were brought as fundraisers to Billings NIW and did not sell well.
September
30, 1997: The Regional treasury shoed $9,093.88 in the treasury
having made $1615 in the previous quarter.
1998:
The idea of a regional brochure was discussed at a regional board
meeting. The Northwest Passages regional newsletter carries a lead
article entitled South of the Clouds by Robin Lee detailing Joseph
Rock’s botanical studies in Yunan Province in southwest China.Robin
had written a winter, 1997 lead article entitled “On Assignment
in Indonesia”.
