2011 Workshop

Visit the edge of the Canadian Shield with us as we take you straight to the resource through the eyes of experienced and passionate interpreters. This is a landscape of granite, rivers and jack pine. The iconic rock, trees and water shaped the history of fur trade, and today provide a modern playground for visitors from around the world. Our hope is to facilitate a workshop that will help you better connect your visitors with the natural, historical and cultural resources around them.

The workshop will be held at the Pinawa Wilderness Edge Conference Centre. This 80,000 square foot facility was built as staff housing in 1963 for Atomic Energy of Canada scientists and has been renovated into the Wilderness Edge Centre. The original intimate atmosphere and practical design are maintained to this day. The conference committee hopes that this small venue will encourage networking and great social discussions. Room rates range from $39.99 to $89.99 per night. The options include everything from a dorm style room for you and several friends or a small suite to yourself. Take a peek at the facility at www.wildernessedge.com.  Participants will be given a code to access our block of rooms once they register for the workshop. In this something for everyone event, offsites will range from city excursions in Winnipeg to day adventures in Nopiming Provincial Park (whose name means entrance to the wilderness.) In Canadian style, we are inviting you to share in our natural and historical wealth. Experience the Rocks, Trees and Water and come with us straight to the resource.

Questions about registration or the conference can be sent to NAIManitoba2011@gmail.com.

Not sure how to get to the 2011 workshop? One option for getting to Pinawa is to take a greyhound bus. There is a route that leaves the day before the conference which begins in Omaha and travels to multiple pick-up points along interstate 29. It arrives in Winnipeg at 8:45 p.m. (Celsius). The Manitoba crew will provide a shuttle from the Winnipeg station to the Pinawa Workshop. The cost is between $80 and $125 (Fahrenheit) one way. Not a bad deal. Go to greyhound.com to get a ticket. If you have questions about this option you can contact Ed Gruenwald egruenwald@gmail.com .

For those of you who driving the distance, the 2011 Workshop Committee is looking to talk to anyone who may be bring a van (mini or full) - we have some great incentives (and cash savings options) if you are willing or able to drive during an offsite session or to help with the shuttle. Contact Morgan Hallett at Morgan.Hallett@gov.mb.ca for details.
