Join your

"The Race to Save our Place: Land Run."
The Land Run; A Brief History
In the 1880s, Indian land was overtaken as the railroad began to cross
into Oklahoma and Indian Territory. President Harrison opened the 3 million
acres to white homesteaders in a greatly publicized event, the Land Run
of 1889. Nearly ten thousand people arrived by train and wagon to race
and claim their 160 acres of free land. Over the next few years, four
more land runs were held in (what is now) western and central Oklahoma,
bringing an additional two hundred thousand people. The land runs were
chaotic, however, so land to the south and east (including Tulsa) was
settled either by allotment, lottery or sealed bids. (Source: Historical

Social Mixer
This year's social mixer has a new twist! You will travel from room to
room, watching mini-presentations by fellow members attending the conference.
Each session will be informal, followed with a few minutes for asking
questions and meeting the other attendees. Then...on to the next room
of your choice. We call it "mingling with a purpose."
How about offering to give one of these mini-presentations? It can be
15 minutes on any topic, from nature to history. Tell a story, give a
nature lesson, or do first-person interpretation. NAI is all about sharing
ideas! Audience size will be 10 to 15, and the more presenters the better.
Please contact Amy Stephens
if you are interested.
