SCHOLARSHIPS and GRANTS

Three NIW Portland Scholarships Awarded -
Three $200 scholarships were awarded for Region 7 members to offset personal expenses to attend the NIW in Portland in November. The three recipients are Jennifer Grablander from the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education, Deb Mitchell from the Montana Historical Society, and Kristin Libberton from the Bluff Lake Nature Center in Denver, Colorado. The awards will be made at the Region 7 meeting in Portland. All three will share their experiences at NIW Portland in upcoming editions of Mooselips. Congratulations.

NEW Region 7 Scholarship - 2009

Dick Taylor (Excellence in Interpretive Support Award Winner 2007) ws a docent and volunteer for the City of Colorado Springs as well as Region 7 Treasurer. Dick passed away late in 2007 and left a $25,000 charitable annuity that will fund scholarships to the national workshop for interpreters in El Paso, Freemont and Teller Counties. The eligibility criteria and selection process are yet to be determined. The first scholarships will be available for the 2009 national workshop. Region 7 SCHOLARSHIPS

Undergraduate Student ($500.00) majoring in interpretation, environmental educatoin or a closely related field, awarded in September. Funding for this scholarship is from the annual auction at the Regional Workshop.

To apply send:

A one-page letter or recommendation from a university professor. This letter should state the qualifications of the student and why they should be awarded this scholarship.
A two-page summary of the student's professional and career goals and their interpretive relevance to interpretation.
A complete resume.
Successful candidate(s) are asked to write an article for the regional newsletter sharing their thoughts and desires for the future and part of their interpretive educational experience for the readers.

Region 7 GRANTS

Professional Development Interpretive Training Grants - The Region will pay up to 80% or a maximum of $200.00 of an approved training tuition cost. Funding must be available in the Region 7 treasury.
